Make an impact
Community means the world to me. My love for communities near and far came from my mother. She taught me how serving your community can make an impact for generations to come.
My mother, Marye Miller, founded the nationally known senior center called the Older Persons Commission (OPC) in Rochester, Michigan.
Leading and Leaving a legacy
In the 1970’s, my mother began driving seniors for the Rochester Avon Recreation Authority Senior Transportation program. While driving seniors between nursing homes and part-time senior activity centers, my mom saw first-hand that, with few activities and limited transportation services, the needs of local seniors were not being met.
At the time, she may not have realized it, but she was leading a legacy as she began to campaign on behalf of seniors when she testified in Washington D.C. to protect their financial resources.
In 1982, mom organized a successful millage campaign to establish a non-profit organization dedicated to providing seniors with services and activities. In 1984, she utilized grant funds to purchase a vacant school building and won another millage for seniors in a nearby township.
Over the next 19 years, the OPC center thrived with more programming, fundraisers, volunteers and financial planning. In 2003, the OPC moved to a $14 million building (pictured above) with a wide range of activities and senior services.
I know that the servant leadership of Marye Miller has impacted many people and I hope to follow in her footsteps by leading and leaving a legacy for generations to come. This leads me to one of my current missions.
In 2001, I went on a mission trip to Brazil with the organization called ESTHERs Children. ESTHERs Children’s mission field is in Vera Cruz Brazil and helps the fight against sexual exploitation and child prostitution with girls between the ages of four and eighteen.
On the trip, I met the beautiful women and children of Vera Cruz who want to take care of themselves, their families and their communities. It was a life-changing trip.
I am honored to be a small part of a new aspect of ESTHERs called Threads of ESTHERs. By teaching women how to sew, this new mission will help women in Vera Cruz start their own micro-businesses to support themselves and their families.
The apron pictured here is just one of the adorable aprons for sale through ESTHERs. If you are interested in purchasing an apron, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me through the online form.
Fuel your passion
We all have things we are passionate about, and I hope this blog empowers you to find and fuel your passion and make an impact. My income from Rodan and Fields fuels my passion to make an impact in the lives of others. The biggest takeaway from my business is that it’s more powerful than a paycheck.
In 2015, I had just finished my run for State Senate when I met Laura Jasurda.
Laura is a passionate woman who saw the potential of Rodan and Fields and has worked hard to achieve great success for her and her family.
After learning about the products and the business model from Laura, I was hooked. The opportunity to help women look and feel good from the inside out made for an easy decision to enroll as a Rodan and Fields Independent Consultant. This is when I began fueling my passions through my work as a now Rodan and Fields Executive Consultant.
My Rodan and Fields business has given me the opportunity to pour into and empower women of all ages. I started because of the products and business model opportunities but find that I am continuing because of the relationships.
From the women on my team to the women who use the products, Rodan and Fields connected me with amazing women who I now call my friends.
My Rodan and Fields team is called Team on Mission because we are on a mission to love and support each other here at home and across the world. Check out more on other missions the Team on Mission page.
